Sir Leslie Stephen

English writer and philosopher
He may not have coined the phrase but he popularized the term as one of the most famous agnostics of the 19th century. He was ordained an Anglican priest but in 1862 he resigned his fellowship. He was the father of Virginia Woolf. One only has to read his works to understand his concepts were not easy to dismiss. The Science of Ethics 1882 was adopted as a textbook on the subject.
