According to Stephen Hawking, Galileo bears more responsibility for the birth of modern science than anybody else and Albert Einstein called Galileo the father of modern science. His findings were a constant embarrassment to the Catholic Church as his astronomy not only confirmed the five-centry-old belief that the world was round and circled the sun, but he also discovered four planets, several of their moons, and explored our universe aided by enhancements of his telescope. Because he persisted by publishing his proven findings, the Inquistion of the Catholic Church placed Galileo under house arrest for the rest of his life and banned his publications. His name adorns several significant space explorations. In 1992, four centuries after his death, Pope John Paul II exonerated him.
I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with this sense or reason and intellect has intended us to forgo their use.
